Local women making a difference and impact in the community were honored Friday during the annual Mountain of Faith Ministries “Women Empowering Communities” program at the Vicksburg City Auditorium.

The luncheon was an opportunity for Mountain of Faith Ministries to recognize eight local women for their contributions and leadership in improving the community.

Those honored included Dr. Alice Austin, Holly Blackwell, Joycie Bright, Dr. Deborah Dent, Jan Griffey, Shannon Parson, Yolande Robbins and Apostle Linda Sweezer-Rowster.

“I thank each of you for what you do,” Mountain of Faith Ministries Board President Toni Walker Terrett told the honorees, noting the “tremendous heart” each shows in making the community better.

Betty James, who took over as interim director for MOFM when Tina Hayward suddenly passed away in 2017, echoed Terrett’s sentiments.

She also remembered her good friend Hayward who founded MOFM, a faith-based and community focused non-profit dedicated to helping women and children in need.

“Tina was a great warrior and her legacy we will never forget,” James said. “She left something for us to cherish. I thank each of you for what you do for us.”

Tracey Scott, a former resident of MOFM Faith House, reflected on her time and help she received.

“I would not be the woman I am today without Mountain of Faith,” Scott said.

In 2013, she and her children were nearly homeless when MOFM brought them in to the shelter. She eventually put her trust and faith in God while at MOFM, found housing through their help and is contributing to the community.

She has advice for others who may find themselves in a similar situation.

“Don’t let the situation you’re in today determine your tomorrow,” Scott said. “Believe and trust in God that anything is possible.”

The luncheon also included entertainment from blues legendary pianist Andy Hardwick, as well as current Miss Mississippi Asya Branch.
