School choirs among winners in caroling contest

Choirs from three Warren County schools took first place, winning $1,000 each during V105.5’s 14th Annual Christmas Caroling Contest at the Vicksburg Convention Center Saturday.

The $1,000 first-place prizes were part of the total $10,000 in prize money given away during the contest.

The Redwood Holiday Choir won first place in the lower elementary division with its performance of “Blimey Carols,” a medley of Christmas carols. The Sherman Avenue First Grade Choir finished second, winning $500.

The Bowmar Avenue Elementary Honor Choir won the competition’s upper elementary division with its performance of “Christmas Is,” while the Warren Central Junior High School Choir won the junior high division with a performance of “On Your Knees.”

Runners up in the junior high division were the Mississippi Boychoir Concert Choir, Sumner Hills Junior High Mixed Choir and the Sumner Hills Junior High Girls Choir.

The Redwood Honor Choir, Vicksburg Intermediate “Gator Glitz,” and Warrenton Elementary Choir were the runners up in the upper elementary division.

Other winners included:

• High School Division: the Mississippi Boychoir Young Men’s Ensemble, “Angels We Have Heard on High.” Runner up: the Clinton High School “Arrow 401.”

• Children’s Soloist and Ensembles: Ryan Donovan, “Joy to the World.” Runners up: Alisa Bordelon and The Jingle Stars.

• Young Teen’s Soloist and Ensembles: Najmah Muhammad, “God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen.” Runners up: Allison Poole and Robin Neblett.

• High School Soloists and Ensembles: Jacob Runnels, “Carol of the Bells.” Runners up: Abby Grace Matthews, Lee Denton and Kirsten Busby.

• Adults Division and Ensembles: the trio Envy, “Christmas Hallelujah.” Runner up: Tonya Matthews.
