The mother of two young girls who were sexually abused by an acquaintance of hers has been sentenced to six years in prison for her part in the abuse.
Circuit Judge M. James Chaney sentenced Canary Johnson, 36, to 10 years in prison with six to serve followed by four years of post-release supervision. Johnson pleaded guilty earlier to one count of child neglect because she admitted she was aware of the sex abuse to the children, who were ages 6 and 7 at the time. She was initially charged with two counts of child neglect.
Johnson was an acquaintance of James Willie Ross Jr., 47, a registered sex offender, who was convicted in November on three counts of sexual abuse and one count of statutory rape involving two children under the age of 12.
Ross was sentenced to 60 years in prison.
