The business started in 1937 in Canton, just an hour away, and recently moved to Vicksburg to service the community.

“We’ve been in Vicksburg since around July,” Sheaford Davidson, owner of Davidson Marble and Granite said. “We’ve sold stones in Vicksburg out of Canton and so when the opportunity came about when Brookhaven Monument decided to close we decided to jump in.”

The business brings a variety of reasonably priced and uniquely colored and styled monuments to the community.

“We offer our services and our product to the community,” Davidson said. “We’ve not had time to get deeply involved in the community, but we are from Canton and that’s where we’ve been located for 80 years.

While bringing a unique item to the city the Davidson Marble and Granite of Canton & Vicksburg also offers good service to Vicksburg citizens as well.

The organization strives to “serve our customers with compassion, care and integrity.”

“You’re always dealing with someone that is having a tough time grieving,” Davidson said. “So you’ve got to be professional. You’ve got to be courteous and you’ve also got to be knowledgeable any time you’re dealing with elders and you’ve got to be able to gain their trust and fulfill what you tell them.”

In addition to providing ready-made monuments the organization also creates monuments. Davidson Marble and Granite of Canton and Vicksburg can match or duplicate any existing monument or bronze marker.

The Davidson Marble and Granite Company hopes to continue serving the people of Mississippi for many years to come.

“Come give us a shot,” Davidson said. “Come see us and let us help you in whatever way we can with your monument needs.”
