Weather forecasters call for white stuff late Monday

Warren County residents could be going to sleep Monday night with rain and waking up to a white blanket as a cold front moves across the area.

“We’re looking at rainfall changing into snow Monday night going into early Tuesday morning,” said John Moore, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service Jackson Office. “We’re confident we could see accumulations that ought to be enough to make travel hazardous Tuesday morning.”

He said forecasters believe the snow in the Vicksburg area will probably be between midnight and 4 a.m. and taper off by the time the sun rises, with the possibility of light flurries in the morning.

The Monday forecast for Warren County calls for sunny weather with highs in the lower 60s and southwest winds 10 to 15 mph. The temperature is expected to drop into the upper 20s Monday night.

Tuesday’s high is expected to be in the mid-30s with lows in the 20s.

Moore said the front will also bring strong winds. One online weather service, Accuweather, projects winds at 14 mph and gusts of 24 mph.

“It’s going to be pretty cold on Tuesday; it’s probably going to be the coldest day we’ve seen so far this year,” he said.

“The warmest it’s going to feel on Tuesday with a max wind chill is probably 27 degrees. The low wind chills are going to be in the teens.”
