Part of an ongoing series featuring the teachers nominated for Vicksburg-Warren County Chamber of Commerce’s Teacher of the Year honors.

Danielle White is in her first year as a math teacher in the Vicksburg Warren School District, but she has already made an impact on her students and peers at Vicksburg Junior High School after being selected the school’s Teacher of the Year.

“I am thankful, as well as humbled, to be a part of this wonderful district of awesome educators,” White said.

White, who spent the last three years as a science teacher at Tallulah Charter School before taking the position at VJHS this school year, said she became a teacher because she wanted to make a difference in the lives of children.

“I decided to become a teacher because my desire has always been to inspire children and make a significant impact on their lives, whether big or small,” said the Alcorn State University math education graduate. 

She enjoys witnessing the determination and eagerness in her students each day.

“Their drive and willingness to go the extra mile with any given task I present to them highlights what I enjoy the most about teaching,” White said.

She said she was shocked and humbled to be selected by her peers.

“I am by far eternally grateful to have been nominated by VJHS as Teacher of the Year,” White said. “Although quite surprised to be acknowledged and recognized for such a profound achievement, I am even more inspired to continue to grow in ways that will benefit our students.”

The Vicksburg-Warren County Chamber of Commerce will choose one elementary and one secondary teacher of the year at the chamber luncheon Feb. 20. The winner of each award will receive $1,000 from Ameristar Casino and the runner-up for each award will receive $500 from Mutual Credit Union.

White said it would be a tremendous honor if selected as the top educator, but whether she is chosen or not, she will continue to do what she always does in the classroom.

“I will continue to teach, love, and push my shining stars throughout my teaching career,” White said.
