Man indicted in carjacking that led to fatal wreck

A Jackson man has been indicted by a Warren County grand jury on multiple counts involving an Aug. 5, 2018, carjacking that led to the death of two men.

Deon Jamall Hatten, 27, 2909 Booker Washington St., Jackson, is charged with unarmed carjacking, one count of fleeing or eluding a law enforcement officer, and two counts of felony murder.

He is accused of pulling a woman out of her 2007 Lincoln Mark LT pickup in the Lady Luck Casino parking lot and driving off with the vehicle at a high rate of speed.

He then collided with a car containing Jared Develle Brinner, 30, 2501 Culkin Road, and Ron Lydell Hedrick, 32, 102 McGraw St., Pattison, on Warrenton Road near USA Pawn. The impact caused the car to burst flames. Both men were declared dead at the scene.

In another case, Rondell Freeman, 53, 913 China St., was indicted on a charge of aggravated assault-extreme indifference.

He is accused of dragging his girlfriend with his car during an argument.

According to police reports, Freeman and his girlfriend were traveling in his car July 27, 2018, when they got into an argument and the girlfriend asked to be let out of the car.

As she was getting out of the car in the 900 block of China Street, Freeman hit the accelerator and tried to leave, causing the woman to fall and suffer scrapes to her back and head.

Other indictments include:

• Wade Carter Jr., 30, 205 First Avenue, aggravated assault-extreme indifference. He is accused of running over another man with his car.

• Michael Terry Hatchett, 48, 587 Hall Road, sexual battery involving a child age 14-16 years.

• Betty Jean Robertson, 44, 523 Hall Road, robbery.

She is accused of assaulted a man staying at the Beechwood Inn, 4449 Clay St., Oct. 22, 2018, and taking his wallet.

According to police reports, Robertson knocked on the door of the man’s room and  asked if he wanted to do drugs. When the man told her “no,” a scuffle ensued and she took the wallet containing $300 and ran off. She was arrested less than an hour later.

• Shonda Lashelle Ellis, 31, 2801 Valley St., and Johnny Earl Thomas, 33, 1312 Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd., robbery.

The pair is accused of assaulting an elderly man in the 2900 block of Valley Street June 23 and taking an undisclosed amount of money.

• Ke’Shawn Williams, 16, 502 Farmer St., armed robbery. He is accused of using a handgun to steal a 9mm pistol.

• Roderick Mashun Davis, 34, 1719 Military Ave., sale of a controlled substance -cocaine.

• Derrick Devon Thomas, 39, 805 Fourth North St., sale of a controlled substance-cocaine.

• D’Eldrick Taylor, 34, 3135 Washington St., embezzlement. He is accused of taking $1,160 from Ameristar Casino.

• Thomas Bruce Wilkerson, 28, 2986 Mississippi 27, grand larceny. He is accused of taking a Husqvarna golf cart from the All Saints Episcopal School. The school is the site of the AmeriCorps Southern Region campus.

• Aundreal Domoneik Hall, 23, 10 Lakeland Park Road, embezzlement. He is accused of taking $1,858 from Circle K.

• Charlie Jester III, 52, 1245 Mount Alban Road, larceny-motor vehicle. He is accused of taking a 2018 Toyota Camry from Enterprise Rent-A-Car.

• Jimmy Lee Lyons, 33, 2501-B Franklin St., burglary of a dwelling and vehicle burglary.

• Jaquan Shonderious Burden, 29, 902 Blossom Lane Lot 10, nonresidential burglary and false pretenses.

• Davaris Raheem Brown, 22, 721 Court St.; Tobias Dandre Brown, 18, 103 James Court; and Jermon Alinzon Walker, 20, 2006 Martin Luther King Jr.Blvd., vehicle  burglary.

• Bershard Devaun Brooks, 20, 43 Randle St., possession of forged or counterfeit instrument.

• Raymond Guin, 45, 3365 Lot 19 U.S. 61 South, sex offender, failure to notify of address change.
