Prep baseball roundup: Vikings, Gators rack up big wins

Caleb Sterling and Mayson Shealy combined on a two-hit shutout to lead Warren Central to a 10-0 baseball victory over Ridgeland on Friday.

Sean Daily went 2-for-3 with a double and three RBIs, and Hank Holdiness also drove in three runs for the Vikings.

Farmer Abendroth also delivered a two-run double during a five-run first inning that sent the Vikings on their way. Abendroth then scored on Daily’s single to make it 4-0.

Holdiness added a two-run single in the second inning as Warren Central extended the lead to 8-0.

Sterling allowed two hits and one walk, and struck out seven in four innings on the mound. Shealy finished up with one inning of scoreless relief.

Vicksburg 18, Porter’s Chapel 3
Kendrick Bershell went 1-for-2 with a double, two RBIs and three runs scored to lead Vicksburg High past Porter’s Chapel Academy on Friday.

Bershell also pitched three innings and allowed only one earned run. He walked eight batters, but did not allow a hit and struck out six.

Dylan Whitfield drove in two runs and scored two more, and Jarren McCaplin went 2-for-2 with two doubles, three RBIs and three runs scored for the Gators.

Vicksburg had seven hits and collected a dozen walks. Seven of the nine starters walked at least once.

Bershell and Whitfield combined to issue 12 walks as well, but only allowed one hit between them. Whitfield struck out six batters in two innings of shutout relief.
