To the editor:

I have a suggestion for Connie Schultz, who wrote of watching one passenger humiliate another on a plane this week by demanding an upgrade so he did not have to sit next to the “large” man.

She chose to pull out her notebook and record her impression, an action she described as a “columnist’s habit.”

I encourage her to step forward next time and offer to exchange her seat with the complaining passenger. How much more powerful and liberating her column would have been had she chosen to do so.

Silence in the face of injustice is assent.
