TARA WILDLIFE: People have been enjoying this outdoor treasure for generations

Within the Eagle Lake Community in Warren County sits Tara Wildlife, one of the nation’s ultimate outdoor destinations. 

Tara Wildlife, with more than 9,000 acres of oxbow lakes and 20,000 acres of bottomland hardwood forests, fronts eight miles of the Mississippi River and is just a half-hour outside of Vicksburg.

According to their website, the mission of Purvis Grange Foundation, Inc., which manages Tara Wildlife, is to control “its natural resources in an ecologically and economically sustainable manner, while promoting conservation awareness and the wise use of those natural resources within a framework of both consumptive and non-consumptive opportunities.”

The beauty of Tara Wildlife is shared by thousands who enjoy the outdoors. Summer youth camps that are scheduled annually with an emphasis on safety and ethical behavior, while creating a greater appreciation of the area’s natural resources.

The annual Spring Break youth camp is March 11-15 for children ages 9-16 and includes archery training, canoeing, fishing, birding and enjoying the outdoors.

Some of the best turkey, waterfowl and deer hunting opportunities in the South are also available at Tara Wildlife, as well as bird watching for the bird enthusiasts.

An onsite 5,700-square-foot conference center also provides the perfect location for corporate retreats, business meeting and family reunions.
