Lady Vikes top Vicksburg in softball tournament game

Published 3:48 pm Saturday, April 6, 2019

The third meeting this softball season between Warren Central and Vicksburg ended much the same as the first two, albeit in a bit more understated fashion.

Mary Evelyn Hossley went 3-for-4 with three runs scored, Logan Hardin was 2-for-4 with two RBIs and three runs scored, and Warren Central crushed its crosstown rival 16-4 in the Richland Tournament on Saturday.

All three games between the rivals this season were fairly one-sided. Vicksburg won 8-3 in the first game, then Warren Central took the next two by a combined score of 41-11.

Markayla Chiles hit an RBI single in the top of the first inning Saturday to help Vicksburg jump out to a 2-0 lead. Warren Central, however, answered with five runs in the bottom half and never trailed again.

Hardin hit an RBI double during the rally as the Lady Vikes used four hits, two walks and an error to go ahead 5-2.

Vicksburg kept it close for a while, cutting it to 7-4 with a pair of runs in the third inning. The Missy Gators unraveled in the bottom of the third, though, as two errors and two walks led to six runs for Warren Central.

The Lady Vikes tacked on three more in the fourth inning to win via the mercy rule.
Vicksburg finished with 10 errors in the game, which led to nine unearned runs.

Gracie Emerson scored two runs and Abby Hasty drove in two for the Missy Gators.
Kaylee Hoeft and Annalyn Nevels had two hits apiece for Warren Central. Kayleigh Beard and Laura Reagan Logue each had two RBIs, while Kelsey Lockridge scored four runs.

Warren Central 11, Pisgah 6
Warren Central’s big offensive day continued with another victory at the Richland Tournament.

Sarah Cameron Fancher led off the fifth inning with a walk and eventually scored the go-ahead run on an error as the Lady Vikes tallied five runs in the frame to go ahead 11-6. The game ended at that point because of the tournament time limit.

Lockridge went 2-for-3 with a triple and three RBIs for Warren Central, Hardin doubled twice and scored two runs, and Hossley had two RBIs.

Warren Central (8-11) won back-to-back games for only the second time this season. It will play at Wesson Monday at 6:15 p.m., and then host Pearl Tuesday at 6:15 p.m.
