Officials with the Vicksburg Warren School District announced Sunday afternoon that schools will remain closed as recovery from Saturday’s storms continues.

“All VWSD schools and offices will be closed tomorrow, Monday, April 15 due to ongoing power outages and debris on the roads caused by Saturday’s storm,” Christi Kilroy, communications director for VWSD, said in a statement. “All scheduled after school events are also cancelled for tomorrow”

Earlier in the day, Kilroy said five schools remained without power, but only Warrenton Elementary had sustained any kind of damage. At that school, only an awning was damaged.

The five schools that remained without power was Vicksburg High School, Warren Central Junior, Warren Central Intermediate, Vicksburg Junior High School, Sherman Elementary and Bowmar Elementary.

Later in the day Sunday, Porters Chapel Academy announced they too would call off Monday’s classes.
