VicksburgFest, the eformally known as Riverfest, will kick off Friday night.

And regardless of the weather and its impact on the concert and other events surrounding the two-day festival, the event should already be considered a win.

Many of the changes event goers will see this year came from the feedback from the vendors, the participants and more important, those who turned out. It was their thoughts, their comments that led event organizers to make much-needed changes.

In their release announcing the name change and some of the concerts, organizers credited that feedback with making the event free of charge, eliminating fencing, having concerts end at 11 p.m. and adding more family-friendly activities.

So, regardless of the weather and any changes Mother Nature might force, the inaugural VicksburFest is already a booming success.
