ELLISVILLE — Jake Mason and Chase Tilghman both homered, and Jones College scored in each of the first four innings to rout Hinds Community College 11-0 in Game 3 of their NJCAA Region 23 baseball playoff series on Friday.

Jones (37-10) won the best-of-three series and advanced to the Region 23 tournament next week in Fulton. Hinds ended the season with a 26-20 record.

Game 2 of the series was suspended by rain on Thursday and resumed Friday afternoon. Hinds held on to win 6-4 — it was ahead 5-4 when the game was suspended — but did not carry the momentum forward into Game 3.

After scoring once in the first inning, Jones scored three times in the second and five times in the third to blow it open. Robbie Woody and Bailee Hendon had back-to-back RBI singles in the second inning, and Tilghman hit a three-run homer in the third.

Mason hit a solo home run leading off the fourth inning, and the game ended in five via the mercy rule.

Jones pitcher Coleton Ausbern allowed two hits and did not walk a batter in a shortened complete game. He had three strikeouts.

Walker Burchfield and Connor Carter had Hinds’ two hits, both singles. Neither made it past first base.
