Vicksburg Police are holding two people for questioning about a running gun battle that occurred Monday afternoon on Drummond Street, Lt. Johnnie Edwards said.

The incident began about 12:18 p.m. at Drummond and Bowmar Avenue when what was described as a small white car began chasing a small silver pickup, with the occupants of the vehicles exchanging gunfire.

The chase ended on Forest Street when the truck wrecked and the two occupants fled on foot in the direction of National Street. Witnesses said the car drove off at a high rate of speed on Drummond in the direction of Lee Street.

“There were multiple casings on Drummond Street, and we had one person show up at the hospital with a gunshot wound, Edwards said. “We don’t know if they were a participant or an innocent bystander.” He said the wounds were not considered life-threatening.

No charges have been filed in the case, which remains under investigation.
