Published 6:32 pm Thursday, May 16, 2019

Vicksburg residents have the opportunity to get rid of unwanted trash and debris around their homes May 25 when the city holds its second spring dumpster day.

The program is sponsored jointly by the city, Waste Management and the Vicksburg Beautification Committee. Trash will be collected from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. at six sites:

• The Warren Central Junior High School parking lot on Rosa A. Temple Drive.

• Bazinsky Road ballpark (second entrance on the right).

• North Washington Street at Pittman Road.

• U.S. 61 South at Airport Road.

• The corner of Washington and Speed streets.

• 1814 Sky Farm Ave.

“We’ve increased the number of (dumpster) sites from four to six,” community development director Victor Gray-Lewis said. “We selected two more sites; one at the corner of Speed and Washington and the other one at Sky Farm, so people don’t have as far to drive and it’s more accommodating.”

Waste Management will have large dumpsters at each site to accept all non-hazardous materials. Items like paint, appliances or equipment with Freon, old gas tanks, batteries, computers and monitors, televisions, fax machines, fluorescent bulbs or any kind of oil will not be accepted. Tires will be accepted and picked up by Warren County employees.

The city held its first dumpster day in June 2016, and renewed it in 2018 with fall and spring dumpster days.
