Arrest made in Oak Street shooting

A Vicksburg man accused in the May 3 shooting of another man is being held in the Warren County Jail in lieu of $75,000.

Bond was set for Herbert Lee “Maury” Norfort, 139 China Grove Road, at an initial appearance in Vicksburg Municipal Court. He is charged with drive-by shooting and aggravated assault in the shooting of Jason Antonio Shelton, 38.

Shelton was walking from an address on Dabney Street when a silver Chevrolet Impala approached him in the area of Washington and Beresford Streets and he was shot.

He ran to Oak Street where he collapsed. Shelton was transported to Merit Health River Region Medical Center and then air lifted to University of Mississippi Medical Center. He identified Norfort as the shooter.

Police arrested Norfort was arrested Friday without incident at a home in the 3100 block of Washington Street.
