Suspect sought in Port Gibson shooting in custody

PORT GIBSON — The suspect wanted in connection for a deadly shooting early Saturday in Port Gibson turned himself in to authorities Tuesday.

Vicksburg resident Cordell Flowers was the lone suspect sought by authorities after a shooting at the Claiborne County Convention Center that left one person dead and another wounded. According to Port Gibson Chief of Police Calvin Jackson, Flowers surrendered to authorities at 10:45 a.m. Tuesday.

Jackson said the shooting occurred around 1:30 a.m. Saturday and was at the setting of a graduation party.

Lorman resident Arsentio Johnson, 28, was killed in the shooting. Claiborne County Coroner J.W. Mallet declared Johnson dead at the scene.

The other shooting victim, Robert Thomas Sr. of Vicksburg, was shot in the torso. He was transported by air to University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson.

Jackson said Thomas was in stable condition and investigators were planning to interview him soon.

“At this point, we do not have a motive for the shooting,” Jackson said. “We are continuing to interview Mr. Flowers.”
