Police seek suspect in reported sexual assault in cemetery

Vicksburg P­olice are looking for a man wanted in the reported sexual assault of a woman at Cedar Hill Cemetery Thursday.

The incident occurred about 11:31 a.m. The woman told officers she was visiting a grave at the cemetery when the man walked up behind her and began talking to her. At some point during the conversation, he sexually assaulted her, then took her cell phone and wallet and drove off in a silver Chevrolet Impala.

In other cases:

  • A Genesis 9 mm handgun was reported taken from a 2003 Chevrolet pickup about 9:23 a.m. Thursday. The victim of the theft went to the Vicksburg Police Department to report it.
  • AT&T representatives reported the theft Wednesday of about 330 feet of copper wire cut from a utility pole in the 330 block of Wells Road.
