Alice Faye Steed

Alice Faye Steed was born in Pike County Aug. 29, 1946, to the late pastor Sylvester Weathersby, Sr. and Laura Weathersby.

At an early age, Alice moved to Braxton, a place she often referred to as her “hometown.”  Alice was baptized at the family church, Mount Salem Baptist Church, at an early age. After college she met and married Ernest Steed and became a member of Christian Light Baptist Church of Anguilla.

Alice was educated in the Simpson County Public Schools System. She graduated high school in 1963 and attended Prentiss Institute. She earned her Bachelor of Science Degree in education from Alcorn State University and later received her master of education from Jackson State University.

Alice was a dedicated teacher in the Sharkey-Issaquena County Public School District and Madison Parish School District with over 30 years of educational service.

On Thursday June 20, 2019, Alice Faye took her final resting place.

Her parents, pastor Sylvester Weathersby, Sr.; Laura Weathersby; brother, Sylvester Weathersby Jr.; and niece Chauntae Barner preceded her in death.

Alice’s loving memories will forever be cherished by her husband of 44 years, Ernest Steed; daughter, Christi Michelle Steed (Robert) of Byram; sons Cory Marquette Steed (Shentolya) of Byram, and Calvin Savannah of Murfreesboro, Tenn.; grandchildren, Simeon Rankin, Ernest Javon Steed, Caiden Bryson Steed, Kennedy Baileigh Steed, Robert “RJ” Williams, Karter Savannah, Kaedian Savannah, Ni’ jyla Savannah; sisters, Sylvia Weathersby of Braxton, Lorraine Barner of Jackson and Sandra (Earnest) Harper of Braxton. She also leaves to cherish a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Funeral Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Christian Light M.B. Church in Anguilla. Pastor Dale Wicks will conduct the Eulogy and pastor James Carter will officiate the burial at Mount Salem Church Cemetery in Braxton.

Visitation will be Friday from 3-5 p.m. at the funeral home.

Walker Funeral Home of Rolling Fork is in charge of arrangements.
