Man arrested after damaging money cages at Ameristar Casino

A Madison man was being held in the Warren County Jail in lieu of $50,000 bond accused of damaging a money cage at Ameristar Casino, 4116 Washington St. Sunday.

Lt. Johnnie Edwards, with the Vicksburg Police Department, said Edwin Berrell Adams, 44, 1358 North Livingston Road, Madison is charged with felony malicious mischief in the incident, in which he vaulted over the counter and began tearing up the area behind it.

No money was taken and the motive for his actions is not clear.

The incident occurred about 2:22 a.m. Sunday. According to the casino’s surveillance video, Adams is seen in the casino talking to friends and then suddenly jumping the counter of the cage and throwing things, Edwards said. He said the video also shows Adams’ companions trying to calm him down.

In other cases:

• William David Collins, 18, 205 Barnes Crossing, is charged with two counts of attempted auto burglary and petit larceny in the reported attempted break-ins Sunday of two cars parked at the Candlewood Suites, 1296 South Frontage Road.

He was being held in the Warren County Jail in lieu of $30,000 bond.

• Ronnie Higgins, 222 Cherry Circle, Ridgeland was arrested Saturday on a charge of possession of methamphetamine after his arrest at the WaterView Casino, 3990 Washington St. He was being held in the Warren County Jail in lieu of $30,000 bond.

• Ricardo Montrell Neal 36, 2630 Roosevelt St., and Johnny Thomas, 34, 2801 Valley St. were arrested Friday on drug charges after Vicksburg police narcotics officers served a warrant on the Snack Shack, 2510 1/2 Halls Ferry Road.

Neal is charged with possession of cocaine and two counts sale of cocaine. He was being held in the Warren County Jail in lieu of $130,000 bond. Thomas is charged with possession of cocaine and was being held in lieu of $30,000 bond.

The warrant was the result of a police investigation into complaints of drug activity near the business.

• Jason Ferguson, 37, 1521 Ethel St., is charged with possession of methamphetamine. He is being held in the Warren County Jail in lieu of $30,000 bond.
