Dolores Pearl Castello Thomas Bullock

Mrs. Dolores Pearl Castello Thomas Bullock, 88, of Vicksburg, transitioned to her heavenly home on Friday, June 28, 2019, at St. Dominic Hospital in Jackson. 

Affectionately known as “Lo, LoLo or Big Lo,” Dolores was born Aug. 3, 1930 to William and Madelyn Thomas, the youngest of seven children. She was married to the late Garrett Bullock of Vicksburg.
A lifelong resident of Vicksburg, Dolores graduated from Bowman High School and later received a degree in business from Vicksburg Vocational College. She was a member of Historic Bethel A.M.E. Church.

For years she worked as a cook at Beechwood Restaurant, finishing her working career after 26 years with the Warren County Welfare Department.

Dolores was a devoted mother to eight, known for her sharpness, quick wit and ability to get things done. She made a lasting impression on everyone she met, developing longtime friendships throughout Vicksburg and across the country.

She was frequently referred to as “momma” by many in the community due to her open and welcoming personality. 

She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Madelyn Thomas; her husband, Garrett Bullock; her sisters, Madelyn Pitts, Hazel Adams, Feddie Turner, Rosalyn Nicholson and Mary Thomas; her brother, William “Dickey” Thomas Jr.; her daughter, Dolores “LoLo” Jackson; two grandsons, Keaten Jackson and McKinley “Jamal” Thomas; and a son-in-law, Michael A. Fields.
Dolores is survived by her children, Irma Jackson Wright, Los Angeles, Calif., Dan (Lori) Thomas Sr., Raymond; Col. (retired) Bette Washington, McDonough, Ga.; Virginia (Wilbert) Smith, Vicksburg; Valeria (William) McConnell, Huntsville, Ala.; Michael (Sandy) Jackson Sr., Vicksburg; and Martha “Ella” Bullock-Fields, Gwynn Oak, Md.; 18 grandchildren; 39 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and dear friends.

Visitation will be Thursday, July 4, 2019, at CJ Mortuary, 4310 Halls Ferry Road, from 1-5 p.m., followed by a family hour at Historic Bethel A.M.E. Church, 805 Monroe St., at 6 p.m.  

A Celebration of Life Service will be Friday, July 5, 2019, at Historic Bethel A.M.E. Church, 805 Monroe St., at 11 a.m. Interment will be at Cedar Hill Cemetery.
