Port Gibson man killed in early morning accident

A Port Gibson man was killed early Monday after his car collided head-on with an 18-wheeler on U.S. 61 North south of Solid Rock Church.

The wreck occurred about midnight.

Mississippi Highway Patrol Trooper Kervin Stewart said preliminary reports indicated Dontrel Gibson, 34, of Port Gibson was traveling southbound in the northbound lane of U.S. 61 North when the Kia Optima he was driving collided head-on with a northbound Forest Products 18-wheeler.

Warren County Coroner Doug Huskey said Gibson was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to information from the Highway Patrol, Gibson’s body was sent to the Mississippi State Crime Lab for an autopsy. The driver of the 18-wheeler was not injured.
