Youth football camp
The City of Vicksburg Department of Inner-City Youth Development is sponsoring the 2019 Summer Youth Football Camp on July 26 and 27 at The Mission Park, 400 Mission 66.

The camp will be a fundamentals clinic led by Warren Central High School football coach Corey Wilson, Sr. The camp for children ages 8-11 runs from 8 to 10 a.m., and for ages 12-16 from 10 a.m. to noon. Registration forms can be picked up at City Hall.

Legends baseball camp
The Legends for Youth Baseball Clinic, presented by the Major League Baseball Players Alumni Association, will be held Sunday, July 28, from 5 to 8 p.m., at Sports Force Parks on the Mississippi.

The free clinic will include instruction from Vicksburg native Roosevelt Brown — who played four seasons with the Chicago Cubs — and other former major league players.

The clinic is for players ages 6-16. Guardians must complete the registration for children under 13 years old. Participants should also arrive for the camp at 4:30 p.m. and bring sneakers or cleats, water and their own baseball equipment such as bats and gloves.

Cannons baseball team
The Vicksburg Cannons Baseball Club are looking for players for its 7U and 10U tournament baseball teams. The 10U tryouts will be held July 27, from 10 a.m. to noon, and 7U tryouts will be Aug. 17 from 10 a.m. to noon. Tryouts for both age groups will be at the Culkin Baseball Complex.

YMCA football registration
Registration is now open for the Vicksburg YMCA’s 2019 youth football season, and will continue until Aug. 31.

There are four leagues for children ages 5-11. The 5-6, 7- and 8-9-year-olds’ leagues are all flag football leagues, and the 10-11-year-olds’ division is tackle football.
The cost is $60 for YMCA members and $80 for non-members.

The season starts Sept. 16. Flag football games will be played Monday and Tuesday evenings, and the tackle league on Thursdays, at the Purks YMCA fields off of East Clay Street.

Tennis rally at Halls Ferry
Vicksburg will host a National Junior Tennis League Rally on Saturday, July 27, at the Halls Ferry Park Tennis Facility. The event will run from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., and is free. For more information, call Rick Shields at 601-618-4757.

SHAF charity shoot
The Southern Heritage Air Foundation will host its 2019 Sporting Clay Charity Shoot on Saturday, Aug. 24, at 9:30 a.m. at the Turcotte Shooting Range, 506 Mississippi 43 in Canton. Registration begins at 8:30 a.m.

A golf cart or UTV is required, and rentals will be available.

The cost for the shoot is $100 per shooter for 100 targets. Stand sponsorships are also available for $325. The proceeds from the event benefit the Southern Heritage Air Foundation and its programs.

City tennis program
The City of Vicksburg’s summer tennis program will continue through the end of July at Halls Ferry Park. The daily camp is held Monday through Friday, from 8 to 10 a.m., for children ages 5-18.

A junior team tennis camp will also be held on Monday, Wednesday and Friday each week, from 10 a.m. to noon.
