Area residents looking for work or a better job will be able to limit their search to one location the first week in August.

The annual Vicksburg Job Fair is Aug. 6 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Vicksburg Convention Center exhibit hall. The program is sponsored jointly by the Governor’s Job Fair Network and the Vicksburg Chamber of Commerce.

“Right now, we have about 32 companies, which is pretty good,” program chairman Don Brown said. “We always hope to have between 40 and 50, and a lot of times. Usually we’ll have folks come in the last couple of weeks. I’m hoping that’s the case, so we can get it up to 40.”

He said people attending the job fair will be asked to fill out an information card for the program’s attendance records, adding members of the Warren County AARP volunteers will man the tables at the exhibit hall entrance to help visitors.

Brown said the employers signed up for the job fair “are a pretty diverse group like always,” and include service and technical companies and law enforcement.

“The main thing is getting some quality employers who have job opportunities for the folks who will attend,” he said. “Sometimes, it’s really about the quality not the quantity and making sure they have opportunities.”
