Julia Mary Washington Smith

Mrs. Julia Mary Washington Smith was born in Vicksburg May 13, 1931, and passed away Aug. 4 , 2019.

She was lifelong and active member of the community. She was a devoted daughter, wife, mother and friend.  Mrs. Smith graduated from Bowman High School in 1949.

She worked at Kuhn Memorial Hospital from 1964 until the day the doors were locked for the last time. Mrs. Smith started her work career as a nurse’s aid; and ended as the property officer for the hospital.

She was a long-term dedicated member of the St. Mary’s Episcopal Church congregation. Mrs. Smith was preceded in death by her parents Maceo Washington and Lula Mae Washington and Rose Etta Lowe Smith; a brother, Louis Smith Jr. of Birmingham, Ala.; and her loving and supportive husband of 50 years, Cornelious D. Smith Sr.

Mrs. Smith is proudly survived by five sons, Terry (Janice) Smith of Manor, Texas, C. D. Smith, Jr (Linda) of Meridian, Charles (Lorraine) Smith of Columbus, Ind., Lloyd (Connie) Smith of Indianapolis, Ind., and Gerard (Valeria) Smith of Florence; one daughter Portia Smith of Vicksburg; and one sister, Catherine Smith Blutcher of Diamond Bar, Calif.  She is also survived by 12 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and nieces, and nephews.

Services for Mrs. Smith will be Friday, Aug. 9, 2019, with a viewing at W. H. Jefferson Funeral Home Chapel from 5 to 7 p.m., and funeral services on Saturday, Aug. 10, 2019, at 11 a.m. at St. Mary’s Episcopal Church.
