Nettie Cleveland Key Carver

Nettie Cleveland Key Carver, 98, of Batesville, and formerly of Vicksburg and Indianola, passed away Thursday, August 15, 2019, at Providence Assisted Living Facility in Batesville. Carver was born November 19, 1920 in Oil City, Mississippi to Henry W. and Mary Agnes Terrell Cleveland. She worked as a bank teller at Peoples Bank in Indianola for 30 years. After her retirement, she moved to Southaven and then Vicksburg. She was a member of Highland Baptist Church. Ms. Carver was a devoted and loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was preceded in death by her parents, H.W. and Mary Agnes Cleveland; first husband, Walter Cortez Key, Sr.; second husband, Dudley Carver; four sisters; two brothers; and two grandsons, Jeremy Cortez Key and Kevin Key. Ms. Carver is survived by three sons, Walter Cortez “Buddy” Key, Jr. of Greenville, Joseph Arnold Key and wife Brenda of Courtland, and James David Key and wife Luanne of Pope; one daughter, Annette Key Lewis and husband Jeff of Memphis; 10 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; and 1 great-great granddaughter. The family will receive friends Monday, August 19, 2019 from 2:00 p.m. until the 3:00 p.m. funeral service at Burton Funeral Home in Indianola. Rev. Rayford Ables will officiate. Burial will follow in Indianola City Cemetery. Burton Funeral Home of Indianola has been entrusted with arrangements.
