Prep sports roundup: St. Al swimming and soccer, WC and VHS volleyball rack up wins

Samantha Graves and Leah Larson each won four events for the St. Aloysius girls’ swim team, Tommy Martin and Adam Eckstein won four apiece for the boys, and the Lady Flashes and Flashes swept Vicksburg High and Warren Central in the Red Carpet Classic tri-meet Tuesday at City Pool.

St. Al’s boys beat Vicksburg 94-27, and Warren Central 81-65. Warren Central beat Vicksburg 147-57.

Martin won the 50-meter freestyle and 100 breaststroke, and teamed with Eckstein to win the 200 medley and 400 freestyle relays. Beau Harris and Jon Daniel Busby were also on the medley relay team, and Harris and Spencer Carroll were on the freestyle relay.
Eckstein also won the 100-meter butterfly and 100 backstroke. Carroll won the 500 freestyle, Busby won the 100 freestyle, and Lane Sparks won the 200 freestyle.

In the girls’ meet, St. Al beat Warren Central 93-41 and Vicksburg 93-23. Warren Central beat Vicksburg 46-30.

St. Al’s team of Larson, Graves, Chandler Tucker and Christina Waisner won the 200 medley and 200 freestyle relays.

In individual events, Larson won the 100-meter butterfly and 100 backstroke. Graves was victorious in the 50 freestyle and 100 breaststroke. Katelyn Clark won the 500 freestyle.

St. Al’s next home meet at City Pool is on Sept. 3, and it will also host the St. Al Invitational on Sept. 14.

Warren Central, VHS
score volleyball victories

Teyanna Moore racked up eight kills, Abby Claire Fuller recorded four aces and 16 assists, and Warren Central’s volleyball team beat Terry 3-0 (25-10, 25-18, 25-19) on Tuesday.

Kills and aces were the key for the Lady Vikes. They had 30 kills and served 16 aces. Kendyll Stewart was the top server, with six aces.

Maddie Watkins had six kills and Aryn Greer added four.

Warren Central will host Vicksburg High Tuesday, Aug. 27 at 6 p.m.

Also on Tuesday night, Vicksburg High beat Canton 3-0 (25-17, 26-24, 25-18) to improve its record to 2-0.

St. Al soccer
beats Cathedral

Cameron Mathis and Elizabeth Theriot each scored a goal in the second half as St. Aloysius’ girls’ soccer team beat Cathedral 2-0 on Tuesday.

St. Al will return to action Monday at Pillow Academy in its district opener.
