Police looking for car involved in hit and run incident

Vicksburg Police are looking for a silver car involved in a hit-and-run where a pedestrian was struck on South Frontage Road Tuesday night.

Deputy Police Chief Bobby Stewart said Dewayne Carter, 36, was taken by ambulance to University of Mississippi Medical Center complaining of hip and back pain. He was later released, according to a hospital spokeswoman.

The incident occurred about 10:12 p.m.

Stewart said witnesses told officers Carter was walking on the side of the road when the eastbound car hit him and drove off.

In other cases:

• Two juveniles are being held in the Warren County Youth Detention Facility charged with the Tuesday burglary of a car parked at the Vicksburg Railroad Credit Union, 2101 Cherry St.

The pair is accused of taking a Michael Kors purse valued at $590 and two diamond cluster rings valued at $200 each.

According to police, a witness saw the teens break into the car about 1:23 p.m., take the items and runoff. Police arrested one teen and the other turned himself in.

• Officials with Ameristar Casino reported Tuesday someone caused $1,200 in damages to a storage shed owned by the casino at 709 Lucy Bryson St.
