Vicksburg Police are holding two men for questioning and looking for a third involving a shooting incident in the area of Farmer and Jefferson streets Wednesday afternoon.

Three men ran from police who were trying to stop them in connection with the shots fired report, resulting in a search that was called off because of darkness.

Lt. Johnnie Edwards, with the Vicksburg Police Department, said Quinterrious Vincent McCoy, 22, 2001 Ford St. and Ricky Dewayne Larkins Jr., 23, 1101 First North Street, were detained about 8:30 a.m. at the Relax Inn 1313 Walnut St., after they were found hiding in a breezeway of the hotel.

Both men are being held at the Madison County Jail. Both men are out on bond for previous crimes, Edwards said.

He said the men were found after police received a tip on their location. He said no charges have been filed, and three guns were recovered, adding all three came back stolen. The men possibly will face charges of possession of stolen firearms and possession of firearms by convicted felons, Edwards said.

He could not say, however, if the guns were linked to the incident.

Edwards said the Toyota Camry in which the men were riding was confiscated but had not been searched.

Although police received a call in the late Wednesday afternoon about shots fired in the air, Edwards said police have not determined whether the shots were fired in the air or at a building or a person.

The shooting incident that led to the search began about 5:30 p.m. when the car was seen on Cherry Street by a police officer who tried to stop it.

The occupants of the car abandoned it on Lane Alley near First Baptist Church in Marcus Bottom, and fled into Stouts Bayou. The chase continued to Chambers Street and later to Holly Street, where the search was called off.

The Warren County Sheriff’s Office also responded, bringing in their K-9 units to the search.

Anyone with additional information about the third person involved or any other information about the investigation can call the Vicksburg Police Department at 601-636-2511 or Crime Stoppers at 601-355-TIPS or Visit at WWW.P3tips.com.
