The Vicksburg Police Department will properly install child safety seats on Saturday in the department’s front parking lot at 820 Veto Street.

Nichelle Smith with the department’s community relations division said the program is part of National Seat Check Saturday. She said child safety seat technicians will be available from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. to check the seats and make sure they are properly installed.

She added four or five safety seat technicians are expected to be at the police department on Saturday.

“We have been doing this for at least 10 years,” Smith said. “Each year, we do it at a different site. This year we’re doing it at the police station parking lot.”

She said parents or guardians can bring the safety seat or booster seat to the police department to be checked.

“We prefer the child be present so we can get an accurate fitting for the child in that seat,” Smith said, adding information will be available for parents to help them better use the safety seats.
