The Vicksburg Police Department, while working a separate case Tuesday, found a suspect connected to a June 22 shooting.

In the midst of their investigation, officers found Elijah Eugene Qualls, 20, in the 1300 block of Bowmar Ave. Once officers ran his information, they discovered he was wanted by the Warren County Sheriff’s Office in connection with the aggravated assault of Marlon Robinson.

According to Warren County Sheriff Martin Pace, Qualls reportedly shot Robinson as the two were driving separate cars, side-by-side south on Highway 27. After suffering a gunshot wound to the neck, Robinson’s vehicle wrecked just before 4 a.m. in the 1000 block of Highway 27, just south of Beechwood Elementary School.

When deputies responded to the wreck scene, they found Robinson with the gunshot wound. He was transported to Merit Health River Region, where he was treated and has since been released.

Once officers took Qualls into custody, he was transferred to the Warren County Sheriff’s Office and placed in the Warren County Jail

Pace said Sam Winchester has led the investigation since June and filed aggravated assault charges against Qualls.

Pace said Qualls is expected to make an initial court appearance on Thursday.
