Another great dinner over the river

Last week’s Supper on the ‘Sip, an event held on the Old Mississippi River Bridge that served as a kickoff for United Way of West Central Mississippi’s annual campaign, proved once again to be one of Vicksburg’s premier social events on the calendar.

Including volunteers and vendors, more than 1,000 made their way onto the bridge for an amazing dining experience overlooking the Mississippi River. Only the view and the iconic sunset over the Mississippi River could overshadow the amazing food provided by more than 20 food vendors from Vicksburg.

From tamales to cheesecake, chicken salad sandwiches to barbecue and gumbo, every culinary specialty was presented and every appetite was satisfied.

But more than the full bellies and busted diets, Thursday evening’s event proved just how supportive the Vicksburg and Warren County community is of the United Way and just how valuable an asset the bridge is to the people of Warren County.

The event — in its second year — provided another piece of evidence about what opening the bridge to pedestrian use throughout the year, not just on special occasions, can mean to the community.

We want to again thank those who helped organize Supper on the ‘Sip, as well as thank the United Way of West Central Mississippi for what they do for our community.
