St. Al cross country third at Natchez meet

Rachel Garmon posted another top-five finish Monday to lead the St. Aloysius Lady Flashes to a third-place team finish at the Cathedral Cross Country Invitational in Natchez.

Garmon finished fifth, with a time of 20 minutes, 32.66 seconds. She was one of five St. Al runners in the top 26.

Lillian Perniciaro finished 12th, Nancy Clement was 16th, Linley Miles 23rd and Julia Tuminello 26th. The Lady Flashes totaled 73 points and were behind first-place Jackson Prep (26) and Columbia Academy (52) in the team standings.

Jackson Prep sophomore Julia Stradinger was the individual champion, with a time of 19:33.09.

In the boys’ meet, Adam Eckstein finished eighth and Tommy Martin ninth, as St. Al placed seventh in the team standings with 165 points.

Porter’s Chapel Academy sophomore Bridger Jung finished 31st.

Jackson Prep won the meet with 60 points. Cathedral’s Ryan Skates was the individual champion, in 17:05.67.

The meet was the last one of the regular season for St. Al. It will compete again in the MAIS State Championships on Oct. 22 at Choctaw Trails in Clinton.
