Henry Lee Hunter

Celebration of life has been scheduled for Henry Lee Hunter on Saturday, Oct. 19, 2019 at noon at the Vicksburg City Auditorium. Henry will lie in repose at the auditorium from 11 a.m. until the hour of services.

There will be a private visitation on Friday, Oct. 18, 2019 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. by “Invitation Only” at C.J. Williams Mortuary Services.

Public viewing will be from 1-5 p.m. at the funeral home, then Henry will be transferred to Greater Grove Street Baptist Church for a celebration service from 6-7 p.m.

Immediately following Saturday’s services, Henry will be transported to his final resting place at Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Henry was born and reared in Vicksburg and was a pillar of the community most of his adult life. As a young man, he joined the Student Non-Violent Coordinating Committee tasked with registering non-registered voters across the state of Mississippi.

He has been a longtime member of the Vicksburg Chapter of the NAACP, Cooper Lighting Retirement Group and the Warren County Democratic Committee.

As a faithful member of Greater Grove Street Baptist Church, Henry was devoted being an elder of the church and singing in the Greater Grove Street Mass Choir. He was also a member of a gospel group called the “Chosenaires.”

Henry leaves to cherish his loving memories; his wife, Retia Huell Hunter; his children, Gail (Joseph) Brown, Karl (Oretha) Hunter, Marvin (Katrina) Hunter, Rose (Julius) Gardner, Mark (Felecia) Hunter, Courtney Huell, Kendall Huell; one sister, Alma (Albert) Wilson; one brother Donell (Rosa) Wince; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.
