In the South, there’s nothing better than sitting on the front porch and listening to the rainfall. Maybe it is for that reason organizers for the second annual Porchfest are not overly concerned about a wet forecast for Saturday morning.

With music beginning at 11 a.m. and lasting throughout the afternoon and evening at locations along Drummond Street, organizers are keeping an eye on the forecast but do not expect the weather to impact the schedule.

“We have been watching the weather closely and right now looking at the hourly forecast shows that the rain is supposed to be out of Vicksburg by 8 or 9 a.m. at the latest Saturday,” organizer Elizabeth Nelson said. “If that forecast holds true, we will absolutely have our event. If the forecast changes and predicts rain for most of the day, we would have to cancel, but right now it looks clear after 9 a.m.”

Musicians are scheduled to play at locations along Drummond beginning at 11 a.m. and continuing through 5 p.m. Beginning at 6 p.m., the after-party will be held at Martins at Midtown, 1101 Belmont St.

As for the weather, National Weather Service meteorologist Alan Campbell said the impact from the rain, brought about by a cold front and the sudden development of Tropical Storm Olga in the Gulf of Mexico, should last through part of Saturday.

But, Campbell said, the Vicksburg area is forecast to have mainly rain, with winds Saturday possibly gusting to 20-to-25 miles per hour.

He also said forecasts call for mostly cloudy conditions throughout the day Saturday, with Sunday looking nice.
