Thelma Juanita Brown Rush, 89, of Vicksburg, passed away at Shady Lawn Nursing Home May 5, 2019.

Mrs. Rush was born in Biloxi on Sept. 2, 1930, to William and Sarah Christian Brown.

A 1948 graduate of Bowman High School, she attended Tougaloo College and Chicago Business College.

Mrs. Rush worked for the United States Army Corps of Engineers Waterways Experiment Station in Vicksburg, retiring in 1987 as a personnel specialist.

Her community service involvement included founder and first and fifth president of the Vicksburg Chapter of The Links Inc., the Beulah Cemetery Historic Preservation Committee, and the Mississippi Advisory Committee of the U. S. Commission on Civil Rights, among others.

 Mrs. Rush is survived by one son, Bindley C. Williams, Major-USAF-Retired; a brother, Leonard L. Brown (Jacquelyn) of Portland, Ore.; a sister, Georgene Ewell Clark (Norman) of Cleveland; granddaughters, Crystal and Amber Williams of Atlanta, Ga.; nephews, Derek and Patrick Brown of Portland, Ore.; Justin Clark and Reyhan Grims of Cleveland; numerous cousins, among them Velma Bunch, William Robinson, and the Regan and Christian Families of Vicksburg; and other relatives and special friends.

Memorial services will be 1 p.m. at the Vicksburg Municipal Auditorium on Nov. 9.
