John Robert ‘Bobby’ Burks

John Robert “Bobby” Burks, banker and businessman, of Vicksburg, died Monday, Oct. 28, 2019, in Collins.

He was born in Macon Aug. 10, 1948, and was predeceased by his parents, Mrs. J.C. Cooper (née, Ethel L. Pugh) and Mr. Edward Meeks Burks Jr., both of Memphis, Tenn.; and his brother James Edward Burks I, of Eupora.

Mr. Burks was a bank officer in several Mississippi locations, settling in Vicksburg, where he had lived for many years and was well known as a dedicated golfer and baseball fan. He was a member of Crawford Street United Methodist Church.

Bobby spent most of his childhood and teen years in Memphis and was an admirer of Elvis Presley, of whom he was an acquaintance. He served honorably in Vietnam. After his return from overseas, he began his career in Columbus.

Mr. Burks is survived by his son John Robert Burks Jr. and his wife Helen Gibson Burks, as well as by his nieces and nephews, Debbie Burks Crutchfield of Pascagoula and James Edward “Eddie” Burks II of Brandon, Joy Gibson Sills and Charles Clifford Gibson IV, both of Arkansas.

Services will be held at a later date.
