The sugar high from Halloween has yet to subside and it’s already time for some to put up their Christmas tree and prepare their annual Christmas cards.

The U.S. Postal Service announced last week mailing deadlines for those wanting to ensure their Christmas packages and cards get to where they needed to go in time, including destinations overseas.

For those addresses that are connected to an APO, or Army Post Office, FPO, or Fleet Post Office, which is for U.S. Navy installations and ships, or DPO, which is for those with a diplomatic post office addresses, the deadline for Priority Mail and first-class mail is Dec. 11.

For those mailing packages, or having gifts mailed directly to loved ones, the deadline for USPS Retail Ground service is Dec. 14, while the deadline for first-class mail service, including greeting cards, is Dec. 20. Items up to 15.99 ounces being shipped first-class must also be sent no later than Dec. 20.

According to the postal service, dates are for estimated delivery before Dec. 25.

“Actual delivery date may vary depending on origin, destination, Post Office acceptance date and time and other conditions,” the USPS said in their release.

The service said given the number of people shopping earlier and shopping online, what had once been a “busiest day” for deliveries, has now moved to a “busiest week.”

Beginning the week of Dec. 9, customer traffic is expected to increase, with the week of Dec. 16-22 predicted to be the busiest mailing, shipping and delivery week.
