Margaret Tucker Durst, 89, passed away peacefully Thursday, Nov. 28, 2019, surrounded by her children in Clinton. 

She was born in Isola on Dec. 2, 1929, and lived most of her life in Delta City. She was the daughter of the late Oliver Bliss “Bunk” and Willie Tucker.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Donald O. “Tut” Durst; sister, Elizabeth Hopkins; her son, Donald O. Durst Jr.; and her great-granddaughter, Lucy Tucker Durst. 

She is survived by her children, William “Bill” Durst (Evelyn), Bartley “Bart” Durst (Amanda), Delia Nuckolls (Wayne) and Elizabeth “Bae” Waldon (the late Rob); and daughter-in-law Lottie Durst. 

She leaves behind 17 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. Each one has a special place in their heart for their beloved Mimi. 

Margaret and Tut were married April 4, 1948, and lived and farmed cotton, soybeans, rice and corn in Delta City. 

Durst Farms has been producing for several generations and is thriving today in the South Delta. Margaret was a faithful member of Our Mother of Mercy Catholic Church in Anguilla. She loved her faith and church as much as her family. 

Margaret was a community leader in the Rolling Fork area. Throughout her life, she served on the Sharkey- Issaquena Co. School Board as president for several terms, as a dedicated area volunteer leader for the Red Cross, and was the curator for the Vickland Cemetery.

Margaret was an exceptional southern gourmet cook, where she applied her talent as a successful caterer in the Delta. Besides catering, her hobbies included many Delta Bridge Clubs, reading, providing an open home to her closest friends for an afternoon of coffee, sewing, and often traveling with friends.  

Funeral services were 11 a.m. with burial following at Vickland Cemetery in Vickland. 

Pallbearers will be Billy Durst, Charles Durst, Don Durst, Travis Waldon, Trey Schilling, and Grady Turman. 

Memorials can be made to the Altar Society of Our Mother of Mercy Catholic Church.
