New calendar offers options, one stop shop for Vicksburg and Warren County events

Published 3:18 pm Tuesday, December 3, 2019

If you visit vicksburgpost.com, you’ll notice a new option in our navigation bar.

The title “Calendar” has been added toward the right of the bar, and if you click on the link you’ll be taken to a page that includes many event listings within a 20-mile radius of Vicksburg.

We’re pleased to bring our readers a new and expanded calendar that offers a wide range of events in both a print and digital format. The interactive calendar also allows users to submit events from their desktop computer, mobile device or tablet 24-hours a day, 7 days a week.

There are many calendars online that offer event listings to Vicksburg residents or visitors, like those managed by Visit Vicksburg, the Southern Cultural Heritage Center and the Vicksburg Warren Chamber of Commerce. Our hope and aim is that this new calendar will become a one-stop-shop that includes all these events and meets the needs of anyone looking for something to do or a group to join in Vicksburg.

In recent meetings with community leaders and readers, this has been something that has been asked for and has been mentioned as an item that Vicksburg needs. My hope is we can help fill that void.

The calendar can be accessed by visiting vicksburgpost.com/calendar and, as normal, a list of upcoming events will be included daily in our print edition. The difference will be that the new calendar includes more items, specifically those relating to arts and entertainment. And instead of only including events that are submitted to us, we have started cultivating our own list of local events posted to the web.

Event organizers also have the opportunity to enhance their event for a small fee. A sponsorship brings the event listing to the top of the calendar on the webpage and gives it extra exposure in the listing of events.

We are also pleased to offer digital calendars specific to certain categories of events. We’re currently featuring a “Holiday” calendar that includes opportunities for photos with Santa Claus, the V101.5 Caroling Contest and more.

We hope you will visit our new calendar and enjoy using it. As always, my door is open for questions, comments or suggestions.
