Entergy, Port Commission agree to temporary lease

If the Warren County Board of Supervisors approve a recommendation from the Warren County Port Commission Monday, the Ceres Industrial Park will have a new tenant, if only temporarily.

During a special called meeting Tuesday, the Port Commission approved a lease with Entergy that would allow the power company to use 5.5 acres of property at Ceres to stage materials and equipment for up to 26 months.

Representatives with the Entergy on hand during Tuesday’s meeting said the project is expected to deal with lines to and from the Bovina substation, and using the site at Ceres gives crews the chance to stage equipment and material needed for the project.

If supervisors approve the Port Commissions’ recommendation, work to get the site ready for use should begin pretty quickly.

Entergy said some of the work they plan to get the site ready would be to improve access points onto the property, which could include placing a drainage culvert, which could be left on the site once the project and lease are concluded.

The company also plans to place rock material on a portion of the property to best accommodate the material that will be staged.

While the project is not expected to last longer than 26 months, the agreement does provide an option to extend the lease on a month-to-month basis.

Port Commission Executive Director Pablo Diaz said Entergy will pay $3,300 per month for the lease.
