Billy Lee Heard

SHREVEPORT, La. — Billy Lee Heard, 96, was born Nov. 20, 1923, in Walnut Springs, Texas, to Lewis Léon and Jewel Olana Posey Heard, and passed away Thursday, Nov. 21, 2019, in Shreveport.

He attended Mississippi State University before joining the military, where he served in the United States and the India Theater of Operations in World War II as a draftsman with the Army Air Force.

After his military service, he married Dorothy Anne Farley and they lived in Vicksburg, where they owned and ran Heard Electric. He later sat on the Mississippi State Board of Contractors.

Above all, he and Anne loved and enjoyed all the dogs and cats they had through the years, and everyone enjoyed the best pecan pie ever, made by Billy.

Billy is preceded in death by his parents; his loving wife of 56 years, Anne Heard; and brother, Floyd Edwin Heard and wife Betty Wilbourn Heard.

He is survived by his daughters, Anne Denise Heard and husband Steve Lorant, and her sons, John Patrick Shea and wife, Angela, and William Kelly Shea, Terri Lea Heard and husband Clay Peninger, and Cindy Lou Heard and husband, Jeff Grebe; brother-in-law, Stacy Guy Farley and wife Regina Eileen, and their daughter, Bridgette Waldron and husband Richard, and their granddaughter, Samantha; nieces, Holly Morgan and husband Steve, and their children, Matthew, Michael and Mason, and Nancy Heard; and nephew, John Heard.

The family suggests memorials may be made to Voluntary Service, Overton Brooks VA Medical Center, 510 E. Stoner Ave., Shreveport, LA 71101 or Humane Society of Northwest Louisiana, 2544 Linwood Ave., Shreveport, LA 71104.

Arrangements are being made through Rose-Neath Funeral Home, Shreveport, and will be announced at a later date.
