Four arrested for discharging firearms over New Years’

Officers with the Vicksburg Police Department spent the New Years’ holiday responding to a number of firework complaints throughout the city.

According to Capt. Mike Bryant, the department responded to 24 fireworks complaints between midnight on Dec. 31 through 7 a.m. Thursday. By comparison, the department received 18 calls during the same time period last year.

While discharging firearms within the city limits is legal, officers responded to each complaint dispatched through 911.

In addition to the firework calls, officers arrested four individuals for discharging firearms within the city limits over that same reporting period.

Ewell Blackmore, 45, of South Frontage Road, was arrested on Bowmar Avenue just before 11 p.m. on Dec. 31.

Just before midnight on Dec. 31, officers arrested three individuals on Grammer Street.

Lamarshal Davis, 26, of Greenbriar Drive, John Qualls, 30, of Greenbriar Drive and Walter Dolley, 51, of Grammer Street, were arrested and charged.

In all, five firearms were confiscated.

Also during the New Years’ period, officers responded to a total of nine vehicle accidents, which resulted in two injuries. Also, one of those nine accidents was a hit and run.

Officers also responded to two small outside fires caused by fireworks; one on Drummond Street and another at Waltersville Estates.
