Run Thru History
Registration is now open for the 41st annual Run Thru History. The 10K run and 5K race walk through the Vicksburg National Military Park is scheduled for Saturday, March 7, at 8 a.m.

The entry fee is $30 for the run and walk. The children’s 1-mile fun run is free. The first 800 people registered will receive a race shirt. Awards will be given in more than a dozen age groups, and a postrace party with live music and refreshments will follow.

Lifeguard class
The Vicksburg YMCA will hold an American Red Cross lifeguard certification class March 30 through April 10 at the Purks YMCA pool.

Those taking the class must be 15 years of age or older before April 10, 2020, and pass an endurance test on the first day. The endurance test consists of a 300-yard swim; two minutes of treading water without using hands; and a 20-yard swim, surface dive, and retrieval of a 10-pound brick, followed by another 20-yard swim without the use of hands.

The cost of the class is $125 for YMCA members and $175 for non-members. Completion of the class and Red Cross certification is required to hold a lifeguard job at City Pool.

Game officials needed
The City of Vicksburg’s Parks and Recreation Department is looking for umpires and referees for its youth baseball, softball and basketball leagues. Those interested can pick up applications at the Parks and Rec office at 100 Army Navy Drive. For more information, call Joseph Graves at 601-831-8050.

Kings Center basketball
The Kings Empowerment Center will host a 5-on-5 intramural basketball league for children in grades 4-12 this winter. Registration is open until Jan. 24, and games will be played each Saturday from Feb. 2 to April 11.

The fee is $150 per team for church, mentor and community groups. Forms are available at the Kings Empowerment Center, 224 R.L. Chase Circle. Rosters are due by Jan. 24.

VWAA baseball registration
The Vicksburg Warren Athletic Association has opened registration for its 2020 spring youth baseball season. All games will be played at Sports Force Parks on the Mississippi. Online registration is available at vwaabaseball.org. The registration fee is $75 per player, but coaches are eligible for a $25 discount for their child. Hinds soccer tryouts
The Hinds Community College men’s soccer program will host an open tryout on Thursday, Feb. 13 13 at 4 p.m. at Tom Shepherd Field on the Raymond campus.

All attendees must bring a copy of their up-to-date physical, cleats and shin guards. Students will not be allowed to participate in the tryout without a copy of a current medical physical.

Hinds baseball showcase
The Hinds Community College baseball program will host its annual Winter Baseball Showcase on Saturday, Jan. 25, at Joe G. Moss Field on its Raymond campus.

The showcase is open to players in grades 9-12 looking to display their talents in front of the entire Hinds Community College coaching staff along with numerous other junior colleges, universities, and scouts.

The showcase costs $100 per player. Money will not be accepted until the day of the showcase. Registration will begin at 11:30 a.m. the day of the showcase.

All players must bring their own equipment and have a current physical.
