James Edward Abney

James Edward Abney, a lifelong resident of Vicksburg, passed away on Feb. 15, 2020, surrounded by his family at the age of 70.

He was preceded in death 18 months ago by his precious wife of 50 years, Carlis Ann Miller Abney. He was also preceded in death by his parents, Curtis L. Abney and Wynona Christenberry Abney Duff, and all of his siblings.

Left to mourn him are his two loving daughters, Julie Speights (Ric) of Lake Charles, La. and Maggie Brewer of Madison; his five grandchildren; one great-grandchild, as well as a multitude of nieces, nephews and dear friends.

Visitation will be held Thursday, Feb. 20, 2020, from 10 a.m. to noon at Fisher-Riles Funeral Home at 5500 Indiana Ave in Vicksburg. Funeral services will be at noon.

A reception a Lighthouse Baptist Church will follow burial at Cedar Hills Cemetery. Pallbearers will be son-in-law, Ric Speights, grandsons Trey Speights and Noah Speights, nephews Wiley Pritchard, Rusty Miller and Joel Miller and friends Jimmy Bruce and Chris Green.

Honorary Pallbearers include in his brother-in-law, Lewis Miller Jr.; dear friends, Jerry Stroud, Randy Crist, Bob Strange, Jeff Crevitt and David Hollowell, and his nephews Bobby Steele, Wayne Bishop and Brian Miller.
