STERLINGTON, La. — Hinds Community College baseball coach Sam Temple has been raving this offseason about the potential of his loaded offensive lineup.

It looks like the pitching is pretty good, too.

Three pitchers — Harrison Haley, Christian Oakes and Walker Ladner — combined to throw the Eagles’ second no-hitter in three days as they beat National Park College 13-0 on Friday in game two of a doubleheader.

Hinds won game one, 11-1, to earn the sweep. Preston Johnson allowed three hits and struck out 11 in five innings for the Eagles (6-0).

Haley started game two and pitched three innings to get the no-hitter started. Oakes, the former Warren Central star, and Ladner then threw one inning apiece before the game was cut short by the mercy rule.

The trio allowed two walks and struck out four.

Hinds pitchers Matthew Taylor and John Tait Garner combined to throw a five-inning no-hitter in an 18-1 victory over Baton Rouge Community College on Wednesday.

Hinds’ lineup backed them with 10 hits, including home runs by Pablo Lazarote, Vantrel Reed and Caleb Sterling.

Sterling, a former Warren Central star, went 2-for-3 with three RBIs and two runs scored. Reed’s home run was his only hit, but he also walked once, scored two runs and drove in two.

Lazarote was 2-for-3 with three RBIs and three runs scored. He also homered and drove in three runs in game one.
