VHS basketball tryouts
Tryouts for Vicksburg High’s varsity boys basketball team will be held March 4-6, from 4:15 to 5:30 p.m. each day. The tryouts are open to students in grades 10-12. All participants must have a current physical, approved sneakers and workout gear. For more information, contact coach Kelvin Carter or assistant coach Julius Williams.

Justin Henry Baseball Camp
The 2020 Justin Henry Baseball Camp is scheduled for March 1, from 2 to 5 p.m. at the Warren Central High School baseball field. The camp is for children in grades K-6, and drills will focus on hitting, pitching, fielding and baserunning.

The camp will also have a high school home run derby and speed showcase. A mini-camp for children ages 4-5 will be offered from 1 to 1:45 p.m.

The registration fee is $55 for the full camp, or $25 for the mini-camp. All proceeds benefit Vicksburg Family Development Center. To register online, visit vwaabaseball.org/JustinHenryBaseballCamp

Red Carpet Bowl scholarships
Applications for the 2020 Red Carpet Bowl scholarships are now being accepted. A total of eight $750 scholarships will be awarded to graduating seniors from each of Warren County’s four high schools. Students at the Academy of Innovation are also eligible to apply.

Application forms are available from guidance counselors at the high schools, or by emailing Travis Wayne Vance at travis.w.vance@erdc.dren.mil. In addition to the application form, students must list their extracurricular activities, a 500-word essay, and an unofficial transcript.

Applications should be mailed to Dr. Robert Abraham, 3038 Indiana Ave., Vicksburg, MS, 39180 by March 2, 2020.

West Bass Tournament
The 12th Annual Zeke West Memorial Team Bass Scholarship Tournament is scheduled for Feb. 29 at Lake Bruin State Park. This fishing tournament begins at 6:30 a.m. and continues until 3 p.m. The registration fee is $100 per boat, with an optional Big Bass entry fee of $10 per person. First place is a guaranteed $1,500 prize, and additional prizes will be paid for second through fifth places based on the number of entries.

Run Thru History
Registration is now open for the 41st annual Run Thru History. The 10K run and 5K race walk through the Vicksburg National Military Park is scheduled for Saturday, March 7, at 8 a.m. The entry fee is $30 for the run and walk. The children’s 1-mile fun run is free.
