Track roundup: Vikings finish third at Ridgeland; St. Al wins seven events at Raymond meet

Warren Central’s boys’ track team nabbed three first-place finishes and two seconds, and wound up third in the team standings Friday at the Titan Invitational meet at Ridgeland High School.

Dateion Kelly won the 100 meter dash with a time of 11.44 seconds, Joshua Griffin won the 300 meter hurdles in 45.08, and Daniel Smothers the triple jump for the Vikings. Smothers’ winning jump was 42 feet, 11 inches.

Kelly also teamed with Jaylin Bohanon, Erin Wash and Quincy Turner to finish second in the 4×200 meter relay. The same relay team finished third in the 4×100.

Samuel Terrett was second in the 1,600 meters. Griffin added a second place finish in the 110 meter hurdles to his victory in the 300.

The Vikings totaled 69 points as a team. Canton won the meet, with 113 points, and Ridgeland was second with 78.

In the girls’ meet, Warren Central’s Tylah Magee finished second in the 400 meters, and Schyler Morgan was second in the pole vault. The Lady Vikes totaled 70 points to finish fourth out of seven teams in the team standings. Canton was first, with 108 points.

field athletes shine

St. Aloysius distance runner Lillian Perniciaro won two events, while Natalie Burke and Madelyn Roesch added victories in field events Friday at Raymond High School’s Range Round Up meet.

Perniciaro won the girls’ 1,600 and 3,200 meter runs with times of 6:41.26 and 13:32.48, respectively. Teammate Nancy Clement finished third in the 1,600 meters and second in the 3,200.

Burke won the long jump with a leap of 16 feet, 5.5 inches, and Roesch the pole vault with a height of 7-6.

Burke also finished second in the triple jump, with a leap of 32-9.5.
St. Al’s 4×800 meter relay team of Ally Doiron, Caty Matthews, Frances Thames and Linley Miles won with a time of 12:04.66.

The 4×400 meter relay team of Doiron, Mattheews, Thames and Burke finished second.

In the boys’ meet, St. Al had two winners with Logan Johnson in the 3,200 meters (13:20.23) and Brayden Roesch in the pole vault (12-0). Spencer Carroll was second in the 3,200 meters.
