Mississippi State Department of Health officials reported Thursday the number of positive COVID-19 coronavirus cases had jumped again and now totals 50. There are still no confirmed cases in Warren County or Claiborne County.

Sixteen new cases were reported across 12 counties.

In the release, the health department urged residents that in light of the additional cases, “preventive actions become more important for everyone. Avoid large gatherings, keep your distance in public, keep hands clean and stay home if you are sick.”

DeSoto — 1

Forrest — 1

Harrison — 3

Holmes — 1

Jackson — 1

Jones — 1

Pearl River — 3

Smith — 1

Walthall — 1

Wilkinson — 1

Winston — 1

Yazoo — 1

Total new cases: 16
